FDF Applauds Allen West for Securing Primary Win in Florida

WASHINGTON, DC - Timothy F. Johnson, Chairman and Founder of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, today congratulated Republican Congressional Candidate Allen West, of Florida's 22nd District. West easily defeated his GOP primary nominee and will face off against Democrat Ron Klein in November.

"As the primary season comes to its close, Allen West has shown that black Republicans across the country are winning big," said Timothy Johnson. "He's the perfect example of another strong candidate providing a counterpoint to Nancy Pelosi's socialist agenda in Congress."

Lieutenant Colonel Allen West (US Army, Retired) was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and is third of four generations of military servicemen in his family. His parents instilled in him a very basic principle, love of God and Country. In 2004, when it was time to retire from more than twenty years of service in the US Army, he brought his wife and two young daughters to Broward County, Florida, where he taught high school for one year. He then returned to Afghanistan as an advisor to the Afghan army, an assignment he finished in November 2007.

"I'm proud to support a fellow decorated military veteran like Allen West for Congress. He will bring an excellent perspective on both international affairs and education to an institution that needs his talents and conservative views. I wish him the best in November and hope he will take advantage of the resources that the Frederick Douglass Foundation can offer congressional candidates."
